We started so strong around here this week. Then life happened. And it was okay. Have you been there before?
All in all, we’ve had a good week. Don’t get me wrong. It’s just that some sniffles showed up and we didn’t rise to our Well Planned Days at all after that. Here’s what this week looked like for us.
Homeschool
Oh boy, I’m so thankful that God works all things for our good, even the small things. Months ago when I planned our September homeschool, I left a lot of blanks in this week. I don’t even remember why, but I’m so thankful I did! We couldn’t have handled a normal load this week and would’ve ended up overwhelmed and behind.
The Boy has had a good week so far, I just wasn’t around to take many photos. This week involved lots of review work for him, which was especially helpful since Prissy needed my attention most of the week. Don’t worry; our puppy Sasha made sure he wasn’t all alone at the table. She stayed under his chair as he worked.
We did have a little bit of fun this week, all in the form of new activities for spelling review. Our A Reason For Spelling book always incorporates spelling activities on Day 2 of each week, but the options they list aren’t always a good match for us. I was so happy to catch Stacie Nelson’s 5 Simple Ways to Practice Spelling scope a few days ago! I watched it live and we tried out one of the suggestions immediately. The Boy completely loved this diversion from our normal spelling on Day 2; I’m looking forward to sharing the other ideas with him!
You can find her suggestions on Motherhood on a Dime or watch via YouTube. Be sure to take a look and follow her on Periscope for more!
Prissy’s God’s Little Explorers focus was on Abraham and Letter T (for tent) this week. Thank goodness we read the story of Abraham, went on a Letter T hunt, and had our s’mores on Monday. After that, Prissy’s cold showed up and she was puny from then on. Bless her, she doesn’t like being down and out.
From there, the rest of our week has been a whole lot of blankets, books, puzzles, and attempting to sleep it off. That’s one of the joys of homeschool, right? We share everything: even the germs!
The Rest
This was definitely not a photo-worthy week, but we’ve had some wonderful moments. Fantastic tea parties, lots of snuggling, and even a few new Wiggles dances all happened this week. There were even a few times when, amidst the tissues and runny noses, I found myself humming Edwin McCain’s I Could Not Ask for More.
Hubby also celebrated his 35th birthday this week. We didn’t get to do much for him because of our colds, but we’ll make it up to him soon. Perhaps a day at the beach is in order.
Lastly, — and just because it’s so gorgeous and delicious — one of my favorite 5 Dollar Dinners made an appearance again this week. You’ve seriously got to try this Sweet Potato and Sausage Hash. If you’ve never had sweet potatoes paired with sausage, you’re going to be amazed by how well these two complement each other!
So yeah, not very pretty, but it’s been good in many ways. (I’m always up for extra snuggling since these kids are growing up faster than I can blink.)
From our table to yours, have a wonderful week!
