Oh  boy, I’ve got all kinds of things to share with you this week!  A look at our week in homeschool seems like a great place to start. (Follow my blog with Bloglovin)

Homeschool

I didn’t get lots of pictures of Prissy’s week in homeschool, but her week was a pretty active one.  This was her first week in God’s Little Explorers and she didn’t spend much time around the table.  Instead, she was busy reading treasure maps, hunting for treasure, and reviewing Letter X.  Her main focus this week was that God’s Word is a treasure; what a perfect foundation for her homeschool year!

It seems that I have the opposite issue with The Boy.  I took tons of photos of his homeschool week – maybe even too many!

He was plenty busy this week, but mostly with reviews and math tests.  Those things aren’t particularly interesting, right?  Instead of focusing on them, we’ll highlight what Prissy and The Boy did together.   Their age difference makes it tough to do most things together, but we took advantage of several opportunities this week.

They had a great time working on a water displacement experiment together.  Well, for a while they did.  The object was to fill a cup of water 3/4 full with water and guess how many dry beans could be dropped in before causing the water to overflow.  The Boy guessed 50 beans.  At this point, it would probably help to remind you all that Prissy is three and a half.  Patience isn’t her strong point!  They took turns dropping in a bean at a time as we counted.  Fifty came and went.  One hundred fifty came and went.  She did okay with it for a while, but when 250 came and went, Prissy became less, um, agreeable.  By the time we added 300 beans with no overflow, she was downright mad!  Friends, it took 337 beans to make the water overflow!  By the time we finished the experiment, full-blown meltdown mode was upon us.  In her defense, I never dreamed it would take that many beans to displace the water.  If I had known it would take that long, I would have had her sit this one out.

On to the good stuff now:  they worked on a salt dough map project together.  Time for real talk, she actually did more of it than he did!  He measured the ingredients, but Prissy did the stirring and color mixing.  The Boy started out working on the tougher areas, but soon got tired of it and left her to finish it.  I helped her on borders and where the colors met, but I’m here to tell you that Prissy did the majority of this project on her own.  “Mommy, this is just like painting!”  How funny is that considering it was actually his history/geography project?

We’re not finished with it yet, but it’s coming along nicely.  We need to add water, but plan to finish that part tomorrow.  For what it’s worth, our geography curriculum had us making a map of Egypt and our Mystery of History had us making one of Israel.  We opted for neither and chose Italy because The Boy is particularly interested in Pompeii.

More Fun Stuff

We moved to our community in late April and finally made our way to the neighborhood park.  It’s sad that it took us this long!

We also had the chance to spend a evening with friends since our last Rundown.  Roasting marshmallows with friends always makes for a good night!

At the Table

One meal I have to tell you about this week was Curried Quinoa Chicken and Peas from Erin Chase’s One Dish Dinners.  Friends, this was such a fragrant and delicious meal!  You know how I love the smell of a curry sauce in a skillet.  Sigh.

There aren’t many things that all of my picky eaters will eat without a fuss, but quinoa makes the cut.  This Curried Quinoa gives me one more variation to add to my arsenal!
