Paul Cezanne is on our artist study lineup for the upcoming homeschool year, which means I’m in the process of tracking down children’s books about Cezanne to help us along.

Unlike most of the artists we study, I haven’t found the huge number of children’s books about Cezanne that I usually discover when it comes to learning about master artists. Thankfully, I have, however, been able to find some good options that range from gorgeous picture books to biography-style books about Cezanne.

Cezanne Books for Kids

Ready to take a look? Here’s a look at some old favorites about Cezanne that I’ve enjoyed previously with my kids and some new books we’ll incorporate into our upcoming Cezanne study.

Also, keep in mind that the links in the overviews below all lead to Amazon. If you prefer to support independent booksellers through your purchases, check out my similar Bookshop.org list.

1. Cezanne and the Apple Boy

A beautiful picture book about Paul Cezanne, Laurence Anholt’s Cezanne and the Apple Boy provides a look at Cezanne through the eyes of a child. Better yet, it also features reproduction of his work incorporated into the illustrations.

2. Cezanne’s Parrot

Cezanne’s Parrot is another fun picture book about Cezanne, but this one focuses on his journey as an artist and how perseverance led him to become the father of modern art.

3. Paul Cezanne

Mike Venezia’s Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Artists: Paul Cezanne is another good option for learning about Cezanne. It combines cartoon-like illustrations and reproductions of Cezanne’s work, but mixes them in with notes of interest and biographical details to provide a fun introduction to this master of color.

4. Paul Cezanne (Artists Through the Ages)

This book is another option to consider if you’re looking for nonfiction books to enjoy while studying Cezanne with your kids. It explains how he used shapes to simplify painting and how his techniques continue to influence the art world to this day.

Also worth noting, it contains several photographs and reproductions of his work.

5. Meeting Cezanne

Michael Morpurgo’s Meeting Cezanne beautifully tells the story of a young boy who visits the French countryside for the first time, but does so with Cezanne’s paintings to frame his expectations.

6. Paul Cezanne: A Painter’s Journey

This biography from Robert Burleigh and the National Gallery of Art is a good option for older elementary students who are learning about Paul Cezanne. It digs into Cezanne’s formative years and his journey as an artist, but also features work from Cezanne and his contemporaries.

7. Cezanne from A to Z

Cezanne from A-Z uses French words to depict aspects of Cezanne’s life and work in an alphabetical sequence. Need to brush up on your French? No worries; English translations are included.

8. Paul Cezanne: How He Amazed the World

This title on our list of Paul Cézanne books is another I discovered through my local library. It’s a good option for helping elementary students explore his works, techniques used, and inspirations, but also includes reproductions of his paintings.
