One of the biggest goals I have as a parent is to encourage and equip my kids to pursue their God-given dreams. Thankfully there are several ways to inspire kids to dream. It can happen through heart-to-heart conversations, through our homeschool lifestyle, or something as simple as a children’s book.

Today I’m sharing some of those lovely books with you. Some of these titles are my personal favorites and some are books I’ve got on my wishlist, but all of them are great choices if you’re looking for books to inspire and encourage your dreamer.
10 Books That Inspire Kids to Dream
1. The North Star
I probably shouldn’t share my favorite book on this list first, but I can’t think of a better book to inspire kids than Peter Reynolds’ The North Star. At the risk of giving away too much, you know it’s a must-read book when “The end” is nowhere in the pages.
2. What Do You Do With an Idea?
If you’ve got a dreamer in your family, Kobi Yamada’s What Do You Do With an Idea? is a book you’ll love sharing. It encourages kids to keep dreaming, let those dreams and ideas grow, and then see where they’ll lead.
3. Oh, the Places You’ll Go
If you’re already familiar with any book on this list, chances are it’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss.
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
While this book is often presented as a gift for those entering new stages of life, the message in it is timeless and it’s one dreamers of all ages need to hear again and again.
4. The Most Magnificent Thing
The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires is a great book for dreamers because — let’s face it — sometimes our dreams don’t come to fruition easily. We can put our good ideas to work and do our best, yet things can still go awry.
This book shows kids that all isn’t lost when things don’t work out. Sometimes a walk and some fresh perspective go a long way.
5. Unstoppable Me
Unstoppable Me! doesn’t follow the same format of the other books on this list. It doesn’t have the flow of a traditional storybook, but it does have a message that will help inspire kids to dream big and pursue those dreams.
It addresses ten motivational lessons and includes examples and illustrations for each one. That may seem like a lot of ground to cover, but it’s packaged in 32 pages — a kid-friendly length.
6. What to Do With a Box
I love how What to Do With a Box celebrates imagination. If your kids are like mine, it’s not uncommon at all for them to receive a package and toss its contents aside so they can enjoy what really matters: the box!
This book not only highlights imagination, but inspires kids to think outside the box and dream big.
7. Dreams Come True … All They Need Is You!
Mike Dooley’s Dreams Come True… All They Need Is You is a such a sweet book for young dreamers. This one is a good read anytime you’re looking to inspire your kids, but it’s an especially lovely bedtime book.
“Life is your ocean, just follow your dreams to set the waves in motion.”
8. You and Me and the Wishing Tree
Since wishes and dreams go hand in hand, You and Me and the Wishing Tree is one you don’t want to miss if you’re looking for books that inspire kids to dream. This one is truly a charming and magical experience!
9. Day Dreamers
“You don’t need to search for secret doors or magic words to speak. Your imaginings will carry anywhere you seek.”
This sweet book by Emily Winfield Martin shows us that dreaming isn’t just for the big kids. The message behind Day Dreamers is fantastical and enchanting and the illustrations are whimsical, all of which is on par for this beloved author.
10. Drum Dream Girl
Need to inspire your daughter to dream? Drum Dream Girl is your book. Based on the true story of Millo Castro Zaldarriaga, this book reminds us that boys and girls both can follow their dreams.
