Christmas Gifts Kids Can Make

Giving is such a special part of Christmas and, unfortunately, kids often get left out of that part of the holiday.  With no income, bank accounts, or transportation, it can be tough for kids to come up with gifts for their friends and family.

Kids may not be able to shop for gifts they’d like to give, but that shouldn’t stop them from giving to their loved ones! Christmas is the perfect time to let your kids get creative with their gifting.

10 Christmas Gifts Kids Can Make

I’ve scoured my Pinterest boards for my favorite gift ideas that kids can make.  Adult supervision is needed for most of these and some will even require a little more than supervision, but all of these would make great gifts and they’re all things your kids can do.

1. Fleece Blankets

You may need to help with the cutting, but No-Sew Fleece Blankets are a great gift for kids to make.  They’ll love choosing patterns and colors and the fact that they can indeed make a blanket to give.  What a fun way to spend an afternoon!   (PIN it here)

2. Sidewalk Chalk Creations

Sidewalk chalk is super fun anyway, but with some help from you, the art in your driveway can become an adorable gift.  Show your kids some ideas just to get them started.  After that, give them the chalk and let them get creative.

When they finish with their creation, snap a photo of them with the chalk art, have it printed, and frame it.  Super cute and super fun!  (PIN it here)

3. Flower Pens

I’ve been making these flower pens with kiddos for years – even before I had kiddos of my own!  These are cute, easy, and can be given individually, displayed in a vase, or as a bouquet.

Another great thing about this gift idea is that there are tons of options when it comes to flower choices.  You can stick with a Christmas theme and use poinsettias or you can choose especially for the recipient.  Either way, they’re easy and welcome addition to any desk or counter.  (PIN it here)

4. DIY Mugs

The possibilities are endless with these DIY mugs, but I think kids would love creating their own designs.  They could draw pictures or do dot art to create initial mugs.  And the best part? All you need are Sharpies and mugs from your local Dollar Tree make this kid-friendly creation happen.  (PIN it here)

5. Rainbow Loom Crafts

Lots of kids love using Rainbow Loom to make all kinds of cool things.  Bracelets, rings, and keychains are just a few cool gifts your kiddo could make using Rainbow Loom.

6. A Box of Balloons :)

You could give a gift card, or you could send a box full of balloons with dollars inside each one.  Obviously your kiddos would have much more fun preparing this balloon box from She’s Crafty.

The initial idea is to use it for a birthday gift, but you could easily use green and red balloons instead.  It’s such a fun idea!  (PIN it here)

7. Bath Salts

With some supervision and maybe a little help from you, your kids could make their own aromatherapy bath salts to give.  (PIN it here)  You can even use this nifty guide to give you ideas for scent combinations.

8. Photo Calendars

Let them create calendars.  Have them create scenes for each month using the medium of their choice.  Then take photos of each month’s picture and upload them to a photo site like Shutterfly or Snapfish.

From there, they can be used to create one-of-a-kind calendars that will be printed and mailed to you or the recipient for a reasonable fee.

9. Custom Art Projects

Art is a perfect gift for your kids to give!  There are lots of great art ideas out there, but any of the projects from Alisha Gratehouse’s Winter Wonderland Mixed Media Workshop  would make fabulous gifts.  My kids are already looking at these projects and thinking of which of our family members would like each project.

10. Perler Bead Ornaments

I loved making Perler Bead creations when I was a kid, but I always hated how the beads on the sides would fall off when I started the ironing process.  Am I alone on that?

I love the idea of using cookie cutters to create ornaments for their friends out of the Perler Beads.  That totally eliminates the issue of beads falling off and gives kids a chance to have fun with all kinds of cookie cutters and color combinations.  Sure, you’ll need to help with the oven, but it’s a lot easier than dealing with the iron.  (PIN it here)

What are your kids’ favorite gifts to make?  I’d love to check out more ideas!
