It’s easy enough to find individual devotionals and Bible reading plans for each family member, but there’s not a huge selection of resources that encourage families to read, learn, and grow together. Thankfully that seems to be changing!

I love finding resources that help families connect to God’s Word and I love sharing those resources with you. Now that we’ve spent some time checking out The Bible Is My Best Friend Family Devotional, I can say that this is a resource I don’t want you to miss!
Review: The Bible Is My Best Friend
My husband and I are big believers in families coming together to worship and grow their faith — this devotional makes it all so easy! The Bible Is My Best Friend is a 52-week devotional that’s designed specifically for families to use together! Written by Sheila Walsh and fantastically illustrated by Sarah Horne, this devotional gives families everything needed to come together and connect with God.
Reading the Bible is great. Studying the Bible is better. But applying the Bible is what this is all about. We have to fight for this generation of children. We have to teach them the truth.”
– Sheila Walsh
Each week of this devotional is dedicated to just that: leading parents to teach their children truth. Each week focuses on one Bible memory verse and concept, but enforces these in different ways each day. Here’s a look at the general contents for each week:
- devotional reading
- questions for discussion
- challenge for the entire family
- related activity
What I Love
I’m loving our time using The Bible Is My Best Friend and here’s why: it’s everything a family devotional should be! It’s colorful, engaging, and thought-provoking without being too much for children and too little for the adults leading.
I also love how well the different weekly components make it easy for for busy families to work in their devotional time. Nights at home are perfect for the devotional readings, activities, and challenges, but the discussion questions and memory verse focus can happen anywhere, even on the go!
Bottom Line: The Bible Is My Best Friend is a family devotional that I absolutely recommend to any parents looking to incorporate family devotions into their daily routines. I can’t think of a better resource specifically for families to use together for devotional time!
The weekly devotions help kids (and adults) apply scripture to their lives, while providing plenty of reinforcement using a variety of methods. This is a devotional I’m thrilled to have found!
