Our 10 Favorite Devotionals for Kids

One of the most important things we can do for our kids is encourage them to have daily quiet time with God.  One way we do this in our home is by providing our kids with devotionals designed with them in mind.  This is such an easy way to help them connect with and apply God’s Word to their lives.

Today I’m sharing a list of some of our favorite devotionals for kids in hopes that you’ll find the one that helps you connect your kids to our good, good Father.  There are plenty more out there to choose from, but these are the ones that are near to our hearts.

10 Great Devotionals for Kids

1.  Grace for the Moment by Max Lucado – Grace for the Moment is a year-long devotional centered around God’s grace.  Each daily reading is one page in length and focuses on a specific Bible verse and offers explanation and practical application for that verse.

2.  Jesus Calling by Sarah Young – This was the first devotional that The Boy ever tackled on his own and I still find him rereading daily entries from it.  Like Grace for the Moment, each entry is one page in length and follows a specific pattern; because of that, it’s great for helping your kids establish a daily quiet time routine.

3. Prayer Works by Alex Kendrick, Stephen Kendrick, and Amy Parker – Just as the cover says, this devotional is a book of “prayer training and strategy for kids.”  Prayer Works is a kids companion to the movie War Room and does a wonderful job showing kids the whys and hows of a daily prayer time.  If you’d like to learn more, be sure to check out my Prayer Works review.

4. The Beginner’s Bible: Kid-Sized Devotions by Kelly Pulley – If your family loves The Beginner’s Bible, they’ll also love Kid-Sized Devotions and most likely any of the age-specific devotionals from The Beginner’s Bible line.

5. Devotions for Beginning Readers by Crystal Bowman and Christy Lee Taylor – These devotions for beginning readers are a great way to help young children to develop their daily quiet time with God!

6. Jesus Music Box – The Devotional by Yancy – Yancy’s Jesus Music Box album is one of our kids’ favorite albums. It makes perfect sense that a devotional based on the songs from that album would go over well in our home, right?

7. Jesus Today by Sarah Young – This is one of our newest additions and it’s already a favorite. Since The Boy loved Jesus Calling so much, I knew this one would be just as well received.  While the message is similar to Jesus Calling, a couple of differences I’ve noticed are that more scriptures are included in each reading and that the readings are arranged by number rather than date.

8. The Action Bible Devotional by Jeremy V. Jones and Sergio Cariello – With the same comic-style illustrations of The Action Bible, The Action Bible Devotional uses a weekly year-long format to help kids connect to God’s Word and apply it to their lives.  I love that it encourages kids to include their families in their application activities and gives them different ways to process their readings throughout the devotional.

9. The Plans I Have for You series by Amy Parker and Vanessa Brantley-Newton – We love The Plans I Have for You collection, but you may already know that if you came across our recent review.  The Plans I Have for You is based on Jeremiah 29:11 and encourages kids to dream big and seek God’s plans for their lives through Bible reading, reflection, and journaling.

10. The Bible is My Best Friend: 52 Devotions for Families by Sheila Walsh – While it’s technically not a devotional for kids, I’m including this one because it’s a fantastic weekly devotional for kids and parents to work through together.  I absolutely love the activities and checkpoints included and think it would make a great addition to any family routine!
